Self-Study

Flexible learning – on your own terms

Certikon offers PECB self-study certification courses, designed for professionals who want an efficient path to certification—without compromising on quality or depth.

Self-study is ideal for individuals with the motivation to complete a course independently, without traditional classroom training, and who value maximum flexibility. Through PECB's learning platform, you get a clear learning path and can get started immediately.

What self-study means in practice

Once you have purchased the course, you will receive a personal login within 24hr. The PECB learning platform, is available 24/7—allowing you to plan your learning around your schedule.

  • The course materials include: slides, exercises, quizzes and in many cases, and in most cases short instructional videos
  • The content is divided into smaller sections, making it easy to study in both short sessions and longer focused blocks—depending on what fits your schedule.
  • Once you have completed the course and feel ready, you can schedule your online certification exam. Exam slots are typically available weekly, and you will receive clear instructions on how to book.
  • If you do not pass on your first attempt, a retake is usually included and can be used within one year.
  • After passing the exam, you can apply for certification through PECB. Your certification level is granted based on the course you completed and your documented professional experience.
  • Once certified, you will receive: 1) your official certificate (PDF) and 2) a digital badge for your LinkedIn profile

Certikon offer study support and exam preparation

When you choose self-study, you gain access to PECB's structured digital platform, where all materials are organized into sections that guide you through the entire syllabus.

If you need support or want additional preparation, Certikon offer professional guidance and exam preparation through scheduled webinars focused on:

  • Key topic reviews

  • Exam strategy

  • Q&A sessions

These sessions are led by experienced PECB trainers with a strong track record in preparing professionals for ISO certifications and other types of exams.

The exam – what to expect

When you are ready, you register for the exam via the PECB digital platform, myPECB.

The exam is conducted online and monitored by a remote invigilator via webcam. You can take it from home or the office, provided you have a stable internet connection and a quiet environment. You will receive a detailed setup guide in advance.

The exam tests your ability to:

  • Understand the standard
  • Analyze real-world scenarios
  • Make informed professional decisions

This means you are not only tested on knowledge—but on your ability to apply it in practice.

Format and requirements

The format for exams depends on the level of course you are taking:

  • Foundation: Approximately 1 hour, multiple choice (conceptual understanding)
  • Lead (Implementer/Auditor): Up to 3 hours, case- and scenario-based questions

The passing score for all PECB exams is 70%. Many exams are open book, meaning you can use course materials and your own notes. However, the level remains high.

If you do not pass on your first attempt, one retake is typically included (valid for one year). Additional attempts can be purchased, and there is no limit to the number of attempts.

Recommended approach

Experience shows that the best learning outcomes are achieved when completing the course within 3–6 weeks. This ensures continuity, better retention, and a higher likelihood of passing the exam.
